Worthing take 3 points off favourites Carlisle in their first ever National League game

After 284 Worthing fans made the 361-mile-long journey up to Brunton Park they were rewarded with an astounding Worthing victory in their first ever game in the National League.

The game started out with Worthing on the back foot which Carlisle took full advantage of this creating multiple chances through players like Regan Linney who had many chances in the first 20 minutes. This constant Carlisle pressure remained during the entire half and in the 42nd minute Georgie Kelly found the back off the net making it 1-0 to the home side. This goal was then quickly followed up by Linney who hit the post missing a vital opportunity that will come back to bite them.

After a lacklustre second half the Rebels needed to up the tempo to win the game, and this they did! Right out the gates Worthing looked a completely different team taking full advantage of Carlisle’s arrogance. Dom Hutchinson creates Worthing’s first chance of the game, and he couldn’t be stopped after that! As the 67th minute came rolling in Hutchinson demonstrated his superior strength pushing off Carlisle defenders as he charged into the box before firing it top corner leaving the goalkeeper helpless. From here Worthing were unstoppable and scored their second goal through Razzaq Coleman De-Graft after a brilliant curling shot. Worthing took the lead with just eight minutes left of normal time.

Worthing remained persistent and after Ricky Augiar was sent through the middle of Carlisle defence it was all over with Worthing going 1-3 up. However just two minutes later they found themselves only 1 goal clear after a mistake by Foulkes who had played great all game until that moment. It was not a problem though as Worthing defend well for the 5 minutes of extra time and leave Carlisle with 3 points in a historic victory away from home.

Next up is Robbie Savages Forest Green at home which the Rebels will be looking favourites in if they can keep momentum from such a excellent victory in Brunton Park.
